Totnes
Totnes, in Devon, stands on a steep hill above the River Dart six miles west of Paignton. With a population of around 6000, Totnes was settled first by the Saxons and then the Normans, who built the castle to defend the River Dart crossing point. Totnes still builds sailing boats and has a weekly livestock market.
