St Ives
St Ives is a popular holiday resort
of about ten thousand people lying on the coast of Cornwall about ten
miles to the north east of Penzance. The town's early prosperity was
founded on pilchard fishing. In the nineteenth century, the trade in
tin and copper added to the port's importance. Later, St Ives became a
Mecca for artists, the best known being sculptor Barbara Hepworth, whose
works can be viewed by visitors in the local museum and art gallery. The
